Period issues.

I have had period issues, since having my youngest child, and they've gotten progressively worse. Ive been spotting before my period, which is now about 10 days before my period then I still have a full period. Its very predictable.

I had a smear test, a couple of years ago, which discovered a cervical ectropion. As the pre menstrual bleeding got progressively worse, I returned to the doctors. I ended up getting referred to a gynecologist and having a transvaginal scan (this was April/may 2020) she said everything was clear and I received silver nitrate treatment.

The pre-period bleeding has progressively gotten worse since then, I returned to the doctors and she done an internal check and said that it was mostly healed and she can't see that being the cause of my excessive bleeding.

I rang the GP again, as I felt she was dismissive of my concerns and the bleeding isn't getting any more manageable. She has booked me in for a CA125 blood test, and a recheck of my thyroid, that she said was slightly low but it wasn't concerning and that wouldnt be the reason for the menstrual issues. This is all quite stressful as this has been going on for years.

Alongside the spotting, my period symptoms have changed, and during the spotting I have a lot of, the only way I can describe it is pelvic gurgling. Has anyone had anything similar, and it hasn't been anything to worry about, at least cancer wise? Just a little anxious about it all. I have children and I'm only 27 and I feel like any concerns I've had about my periods have been dismissed over and over again.

  • Hello Nj93,

Your doctor is doing their best to help, but at the moment it seems like they're not sure what's causing the symptoms. I can understand it would be quite stressful, but please keep informing your doctor of any changes in your symptoms and hopefully they can get to the bottom of it. If you do feel unhappy with the way you're being looked after by your current doctor you may want to consider getting a second opinion you can find out more about this here

I hope you find the reassurance you need,
