I saw your post and thought I'd share my experience. I went to my GP with pain in my left side and lower back in December 2020. I was told to go back in 2 weeks if it didn't improve. It didn't and about a week later it was very painful. A CT scan showed a 20cm cyst on my right ovary. They said that the left pain was caused by the cyst pressing on my bowel. 

I had open surgery last Tuesday (19th Jan 2021). They removed the cyst, both ovaries and tubes. They only removed them because I am post menopausal so don't need them and it prevents a reoccurrence. They were willing to leave the left but I wanted it out, so feel reassured that they won't remove yours unless they absolutely have to.

The surgery went well and although an open operation sounds scary the cut really isn't too big and they can make sure that everything is in order and done properly. I had morphine for 24 hours after the op but since then I have had a fairly low level of period pain type pain on both sides but this is manageable with paracetamol. 

First set of stitches out tomorrow, the rest out Friday. 

I know how frightening the waiting is but it will be over before you know it and better out than in!

Thank you so much for your reply to my post, I am so grateful to you sharing your experience, especially after the operation - as it gives me an insight as to what is ahead. Definitely sounds like the best decision for you to ensure there isn't a reocurrence.

I hope the removal of the rest of your stitches went well and you are recovering at home.

My operation was due to happen this week but they cancelled it a few days ago and are only doing emergencies. I fully understand the pressures on the NHS right now so just need to sit tight and stay positive. They have said I'm priorty and top of the list and not to worry, that I'll be seen soon but who knows if soon is a week or two or a month. Im very worried as the original lump on the left is back again and very sore (even although they said the left is fine) and the right where it has been identified is getting sorer as the days go by- I have a call with my doctor this week as unable to speak with the consultant and feel I need advice as I understand pain can be caused from the other side but its the lump that worries me.
