4 week wait suspected melonoma

I live in Scotland and attended doctor 2 weeks ago with a changing mole on my leg it's got 4 out of 5 signs of melonoma and has started to turn crusty. I see England has 2 week waits for appointments when I phoned the dermatology department yesterday 2 weeks after my doctor sent urgent referral and hadn't heard anything from the department the receptionist booked me the next available appointment for a further 2 weeks time. Worried how quickly it may spread in this time and if I should have pushed further for a quicker appt

  • Hi sorry to hear your going through all this. Im in Ayrshire and had an unexpected menstrual bleed on Sat 5th Dec went to Adoc but didnt have equipment to examine me so had to go to GP on the Mon, 7th. She sent an urgent referral to gynae cancer consultant and I had to wait, felt like the longest ever, untol Fri 8th Jan for his Secretary to call me and she gave me an appointment for Monday 11th.  Don't know why we have to wait this long up here. It is what it is.  But at my appointment he did every examination he could, all in the same room, well same electronic chair.  I had a scan,  then an (internal) Hysteroscopy, an internal examination and finally he took a biopsy where he had found something.  He talked me through everything during and about a couple of things it could be.  I forgot to ask how long results take. So I called hospital and his sec said if its urgent it'll be about 4 weeks wait.  Easy for her to say.  Try and keep busy, I find writing on here a great help, its calmed me down a bit, knowing that I'm not alone, I panicked and we fidnt sleep for days.  I'm so glad I found this place, it was by accident.

I think you will find that other people going through the same as you will see your post and reply here soon.  Take care, Jen
