Hi,
I did a pap test in October which showed low grade findings. I did a colposcopy in early December and the biopsies showed something called adenocarcinoma, which is definitely more serious than some low grade findings. I did a LEEP 2 weeks ago and after the procedure, my Dr told me that I most likely would have to do a hysterectomy because adenocarcinoma can lead to aggressive, invasive cancer and it's hard to see where it has spread and etc. She said that I have a high score for this being adenocarcinoma (she did some tests while doing the procedure), I don't remember what the score is called but I had 8 out of 10 criteria which is high. She said the tissue of the cervix looked dysplastic and she was certain that this was adenocarcinoma. She sent 2 cm of my cervix to pathology and I've now waited for 2 agonizing weeks.
Today I get a letter saying that pathology didn't find anything out of the ordinary in my sample. My Dr has asked for a re-check of the sample but I'm just speechless. Its great of course if this is correct, but how can this be? I can't relax yet, and this actually makes me even more worried because maybe my Dr will just drop me even though I may still have cancer. These types of cells can, from what I've read, pop up anywhere in the cervix and uterus without any traceable connection between the areas. Its just baffling to me that my Dr was so certain that I have adenocarcinoma and now there's just no trace of it. It makes me really worried. Can malignant cells just be missed like that when analysing a biopsy?
I've tried to reach my Dr but it's the weekend now so I'm not getting a hold of her before Monday. Any ideas and advice are welcome.
