I’ve found a lump

Hi. A week ago I found a lump in my right breast about the size of a grape just to the right of the nipple area.  I saw my GP that day and she said to wait until I had a period to see if it goes away,  it's a week now and the lump is still there and I've still not had a period, my GP has called to say continue to wait for a period until she can refer me.

I am 50 this year so my periods are a little unreliable.  Is it usual to have to wait for my cycle before being referred?

My GP said that this is the usual procedure for over 30 year olds

can anyone reasssure me if this is the case

Thanks Amy

  • Hey lovely.

    hope your ok?
I got referred yesterday by my Gp to the breast clinic.
I would maybe seek a second opinion? especially if you have to wait a while for your periods.

    xx

  • Hi,

Same thing happened to me. I found a lump late December. GP gave me an appointment for 3.5 weeks later when she then referred me, and now I have another wait of 2 weeks for a mammogram. Then god knows how long to wait after that.  Putting it to the back of my mind.

My advice would be ask for a referral now. I am sure nornal practice is over 35 any lumps are referred. I have a family history of breast cancer and was shocked I had to wait 3.5 weeks.

Rememeber 9 times out of 10 its nothing, but early detections is better if it is anything.

  • Hi jane

i did ask for a referral straight yesterday,  but was told to hang on until my next period which could be any time due to my age xx
