Ultrasound- shocked that the doctor said he found nothing

I'm 22 years old, posted here before because i was freaking out about the way my left boob felt. Today was my ultrasound. The doctor looked at the screen while examining my breasts, armpit...etc. He looked at me and said "i can't find ANYTHING". There is nothing for me here to take further testing on, i'm going to let you go now but just know there is nothing here. (my GP actually sent this referral to this ultrasound doctor because she found a big hard lump but this doctor said he can't find the lump she was referring to and that everything looked normal). I am still a bit shocked because yesterday discharge came out of my left nipple. He said it's only hormonal. My armpit hurt and he said it was stress...

So according to this doctor he obviously couldn't see anything and i expected him to find at least something and say it's at least a cyst or something but the screen literally did not even show one lump. Do i trust him? I am diagnosed with anxiety disorder so i might think irrationally about this. He said if you're REALLY really anxious about this get a new referral and a new ultrasound.

  • Hi,

I thought i would share my experince with you in a hope that it will help you. Over the last 3 years i have had pain in one of my breast. first time gp felt a lump, and send me to breast surgeon for furher tests.  the breast surgeon felt something as well, so sent me for ultra sound - which was clear. I was not fully convinced, so within few weeks went back to gp to request second opnion in different hospital. and the same story, and clear ultra sound. after 6 months i found another lump, gp found it too, same story - clear ultra sound. I even went abroad (where I was born) after one year to do the test privately, and the same story. the breast surgeon in my home country is very well known oncologist, he put my mind at peace.

im 34 with a 4 year old, and very stressed about this breast pain. so in summer, i went to gp again with the same story. and again - clear US.

And if Ultra sou d is clear, they do not want to do further test, like xray until the age of 38 i believe.

My advice, go fo a second opinion, otherwise you will be thinking about this constantly. Well, I did)) and good luck x

  • I guess it's just my hypochondria playing some games. I'll drop this and trust the doctor x
