Cervical Ectropion & Irregular Bleeding - Referred to Gynae

Hi,

Thought I would create a post as I am worrying myself sick that there is something untoward. I have been experiencing irregular bleeding and pain during sex with blood present after sex (only a small amount). I contacted my GP who booked me in for an appointment last Friday (15/01/2021). Upon an examination of my cervix, she discorvered I had an Ectropion which she said bled quite alot when pressed with a swab. As I am only 23, she said I wouldn't be eligable for a smear unfortunatly.

My Doctor sent the swab off to the lab to check there wasn't anything untoward and told me to contact the surgery the following Wednesday (20/01/2021) for my results. Contacted to the surgery on Wednesday and was told by receptionist that my swab had come back clear, which was a massive relief. I then contacted my GP again to ask if there would be any possibility of having my Ectropian cauterised as it was massivly effecting my relationship due to the pain and bleeding I was experiencing, to be told that the day before, Tuesday (19/01/2021) I had been referred to a Gynaecologist! My Doctor had not mentioned this in my appointment on Friday, which worried me. I then thought that I would have to wait around six weeks for my referral letter, however I was contacted today, Thursday (21/01/2021) by my local booking team at the Hospital to book me an appointment which they had assigned as next Wednesday (27/01/2021).

I am worrying myself sick now, as I didn't think that I would be seen so quick? Not too sure whether COVID has anything to do with it and less people are going to see the Gynae, meaning I managed to snag an appointment sooner than usual. Just worried it may be something more untoward.

Thanks,

  • Hello Merrieflower

I'm sorry to hear that you've been experiencing some problems recently and that as a result, your GP has referred you to see a Gynaecologist.

This period of waiting for appointments, tests, and results can be difficult for many people and it's natural to feel more anxious about what this may be. It's also understandable that you may be worried by the speed with which you've received an appointment but I think now more than ever, you shouldn't read too much into how quickly this appointment has come through. Whatever is causing your symptoms, you should have some answers later this week.

If you'd like to talk to one of our nurses in the meantime, you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm). I'm sure they will be able to give you some information and support.

    Best wishes,
