Should I trust my Doctor?

Hi everyone,

im new here and looking for some advice. I have not long turned 19 and suffer from bad health anxiety. I have diagnosed myself with everything you can think of in the last few years and my tests have always come back normal. Most recently I have been scared of lymphoma. I recently noticed a pea size lymph node in my neck (I've not had an infection in years) so went to google straight away. First thing I seen was Hodgkin's lymphoma. I also have itchy skin and get tired a lot, so you can imagine how I felt reading the symptoms. I booked a gp appointment but she was not concerned at all since the lump was only around 1cm. It was put down to a reactive node even when I explained my other symptoms. I have a severe vitamin d deficiency so my tiredness was put down to that and as for the itchiness I'm not sure. It does get better when I use moisturiser but surely this could still be a symptom? I'm terrified that the dr only brushed it off due to my health anxiety and I'm not sure what to do now. Another thing I didn't mention was that I have to look for the node to feel it. It isn't visible and  I have to push a little to locate it. Am I being silly again? Or could this be the time I'm got cancer? Any help is appreciated. Becca :)

  • Hello

I would trust your doctor, as they often come across this on a day to day and the symptoms you have mentioned are very non specific. Every single symptoms can be linked to cancer using Google. I wouldnt worry with that.

That being said, if it persists for a few more weeks, do contact them again, and maybe ask for a different doctor, just for a different opinion. Definetly keep an eye

    All the best

  • Hi Fifi,

thanks for your reply! I feel slightly better today about everything, just hoping my lump doesn't grow. I will definitely ask  a second opinion if my symptoms persists. Thanks again!
