Lymphoma?

I recently noticed a bump on my neck around December and went on the nhs website to see what it was.

it reassured my since it might just be a swollen gland and should go down in 2 weeks.

however it didn't go away and I have started to notice it more recently, I am getting worried about it.

it hasn't changed size and is barely noticeable when I look in the mirror, only when I press my finger against it. I also think I have been getting tired recently, however that could be me reading into it too much.

i am a teenager and I am scared to ask my mum about it since she is very busy working from home and I don't want to unnecessarily go to the doctors as there are tight restrictions with covid.

should I be concerned about my symptoms?

  • Hi Personperson123,

I'm not a doctor, so can't give you any medical advice. However, if I were to give any advice, it would be to not work yourself up about it and to not read into it too much, but call your doctor. I would assume they'll give you a telephone appointment, and if they need to see you, they'll get you to come in.

From a similar experience I had where I found swollen lymph nodes under my armpit, neck and groin, I've learnt that quite a lot of things cause lymph nodes to swell, and they don't always return back to their previous size. I discovered my swollen lymph nodes in March last year and they're still the same size now.

A consultant I saw told me they can swell due to an infection I may have had, acne or they may have been the same size and I only just noticed them. Even before she'd sent me for blood tests and scans, she'd ruled out anything sinister based on the absence of other symptoms but got me to have them to "dot the Is and cross the Ts". I left my appointments feeling much better. So, ask your doctor - they know what they're looking for!

Hope it helps and hope it puts your mind at ease, even just a little bit.

  • Thank you so much this does help me not to worry and I haven't had any other symptoms so it should be ok.

  • Hello,

I'm a 20 year old male, I also suffer bad from health anxiety.

so around a week ago I noticed a small lump under my skin under my jaw line I think where the glands are.

I am so scared if it could possibly be cancer and I've consulted dr google many of times and my head is fried and I don't know what to do. I'm so scared to go to the go incase they give me the worst outcome possible.

I don't show any other symptoms I don't have night sweats I don't have lose of weight (not that I know off)

I'm just scared as I really don't fancy dying young not at this age :(

I feel like I'm going on a bit here but I just need some reassurance I really don't know how to deal with this health anxiety.

    many thanks for reading,

    jake

  • Hey Jake.

Sorry to hear you are suffering from health anxiety. I hope you are doing OK.

Swollen lymph nodes, especially small ones, are usually explained by other causes. However sometimes the waiting and not knowing can be worse than knowing, and lead you down the Google rabbit hole! I hope you can find it in you to get checked out soon so you can feel better :)

I am in a similar-ish boat. Except I've got a swollen lymph node in my neck and have been to the docs. Got some more tests to come and finding it hard not to worry. But I'm glad I went because I have taken some control over the situation.

Good luck! Keep in touch if you need to.
