Tongue cancer Symptoms

Hello, would anybody be able to share some of their symptoms of tongue cancer please? I am having some symptoms which I will list and I'm absolutely petrified. I'm 30 years old with 3 children age from 1-8 and I'm scared I am going to leave them behind so early in their lives.

Tingly sore on the side of the tongue(was persistent now comes and goes)

sore red throat(pain comes and goes

lump in neck(no pain and pea size)

sometimes but not often dull ear pain last no longer than 30 seconds at a time

inceeased heartburn

whitish coating on the back of the tongue

if anyone can help I would appreciate it, my anxiety is immense! I can't stop googling and reading other people's stories. Just want to know if any of my symptoms are similar with others. I have an ultrasound on my neck tomorrow and I'm really worried. Thankyou for reading xx

  • Oh I had mine done Friday so we should get our bloods results pretty close together. Let me know how you get on! I'm hoping

my ultrasound will be back Monday as I had it done Monday just gone and they said 5-7 days. Fingers crossed.

I know how you feel I have 3 young children too! It's a frightening time what with covid being added on top.

    good luck xx

  • So I woke up feeling pretty groggy and miserable today. Didn't have a very nice dream and now I'm fearing the worst and if it turns out to be the big c I'm scared it's going to be untreatable:(

  • I have phoned to see if my ultrasound results are in and they still aren't, receptionist said can take a couple of weeks, even though the sonographer said 5-7 days. So I'm still panicking about waiting for the results to see what the issue is. In the meantime this red sore on the side of my tongue is still there and making me really worried. My tongue is completely white, nothing I do is helping. My heart rate is up, I feel sick, constantly got the shakes. I'm absolutely terrified!! I could just cry my eyes out. Really worried this is cancer and spreading as we speak! Xx

  • Hi [@WeeOne90]‍  and [@April30]‍

    how are you both doing?

so I had my blood results back today, only because I called and asked and again they have come back completely normal. Still awaiting my ultrasound results which is a pain. I visited the dentist again yesterday and asked her to look at my tongue again, and again... she said she is not concerned and everything looks normal! No sign of suspected cancer... so what the hell is this thing that apparently only I can see on my tongue and why am I still experiencing numb/burning sensations, it starts off at the side of the tongue and then that might go and my whole tongue burns. This morning when I got up I had no symptoms at all, really thought I had a breakthrough, until after lunch it all came back again! Grr I'm getting so frustrated! It's hard to get through to my doctors and book another appointment, I mean should I go back for yet another opinion or should I really just drop it, I just think something must be going on surely. Still hoping my neck lump results come back fine. Sorry for the rant just feeling so stressed.

  • I'm so glad to hear your blood tests were normal and the dentist is happy that the lesion isn't of concern - hopefully this can put your mind at ease. However , I totally emphathise regarding feeling frustrated!! Have the doctors got any ideas what else it could be - perhaps some kind of nerve damage or fibromyalgia type pain??

I had my blood results back today and I couldn't believe it, they were completely normal. Of course I am thrilled that this probably means there is nothing crazy going on , however I am a bit like you in that I don't know where to go from here - why do I have bruises the size of a fist appearing at random , extremely tired, bone pain , migraines , swollen gland...

the doctor has also cancelled my haematology referral based on the blood test which is great as someone more in need can have it but now I wonder what's going on and why I feel so awful without reason.

So - in short, I am glad that we can both breathe a sigh of relief unlike some others who don't have such good news but I do understand the frustration of sometbibg not being right and the feeling lost and not knowing where to turn or wether to let it go or not!!

  • I wondered, could the sore and white tongue be thrush? It can appear in the mouth and cause red painful lesions and odd sensations along with white coating ? I know the dentist wouid have probably noticed this but just a thought it may be worth trying some treatment and then that's one more thing ruled out! It can be caused by all sorts of things eg certain medications

  •

it's so frustrating because when I leave the dentist I do feel relieved and get back to some form of normality by not stressing so much about it until the symptoms appear again! I keep repeating in my head what the dentist has said to me! It helps but not all the time. My anxiety definitely gets the better of me. I was tested for diabetes which came back clear, when I do get my scan results, regardless of what they are I will question what else is next to figure out my mouth issue, I keep pinpointing on google towards burning mouth syndrome. I know I shouldn't google but I can't help myself.

it's great to hear your bloods came back normal too. Gutting in a way you have had you other appointment cancelled but like you said if they have no concern somebody else can take that appointment. Are they going to do any more tests for you? Or is that it now?

totally agree with you "in short"

just doesn't help our anxiety does it. What do we do next? Keep pushing for more advice and opinions or let it go like you say.

    ,

  • Funny you say that I have had white right at the back of my tongue which the pharmacist gave me oral gel for, god it makes me gag, and if I'm honest I'm not as religious with it as I should be. This is why I was tested for diabetes, maybe I will try and speak to the Gp about something stronger to get rid of it, hopefully will help. The dentist did not mention any thrush though so I did leave a little confused. She just said my tonsils were massive again lol. But they didn't look inflamed or infected!

  • So I had a doctors appointment today after having a phone consultation yesterday, I thought I was seeing the one I spoke to on the phone as that's who has been talking to me about these issues. I went in and it was a different doctor, one I'm not very keen on. He looked at my tongue and said my tongue looks fine. When I mentioned about the tingling burning and dry sensation he said basically I just need to live with it. Surely these symptoms have to be caused my something. Never mentioned thrush nothing just said it looks fine. I was in the waiting room for 10 minutes and in the doctors office for less than 2 minutes! Now I don't know wether to just live with this not knowing what is going on. See a different doctor or wait it out a couple of weeks. But I just feel like if something is wrong it's only going to get worse! Sorry for the long rant.

  • Don't apologise. I know how frustrating and worrying it can be when you are looking for answers and there just doesn't seem to be any.

I wonder, and I am no doctor, if it could be perhaps a thrush infection or something along the lines of fibromyalgia or burning mouth syndrome . You could try chewing ice or chewing gum or even asking the doctors outright if it could be one of these more hidden illnesses eg not obvious to the naked eye.

im sorry you're still having these frustrations - try and find some relief that it's unlikely to be anything nasty such as cancer but I know that doesn't help with the day to day pains and anxiety it can cause.

I am also no further forward with how I'm feeling and have been discharged from the doctor, trying to not stress but I feel like sometbibg is wrong and it's been missed.  If there was nothing wrong , why do I not feel well.
