Breast/Armpit Lump! Scared & Terrified

Hi all

On the 10th I found a lump in my Breast/Armpit, I haven't made a doctors appointment yet. As I have been keeping an eye on the Lump.

But recently, when checking the Lump it seems/feels painful to check.

Could this be something serious? Could it just be muscle or something in my armpt?

  • Welcome to the forum J_Smith although I'm sorry about the lump you've found.

It's always best to get any changes checked out by your GP as they are the only ones who can tell you whether this is any cause for concern.

You can find out how to get the most out of your GP appointment just here.

  • Hello Steph

Thank you for the warm welcome.

I have requested an appointment with my GP, but the best option and earliest that they could do - was a telephone call for the 1st of Feb.

Thank you for your kind words and for the link - I will have a look at this link as soon as possible.

I went through something similar back in 2019, when I found a lump within my other Breast. I booked a GP Appointment and the doctor told me to keep an eye on it and to check it regularly and if anything was to change to contact the GP Surgery straight away. About a week later I found 2 other lumps within the same breast, I phoned my GP Surgery to book an appointment & I told the doctor everything I knew - he asked to examine the lumps (and he couldn't even feel them - which was worrying :angry: ). After showing him where the lump was, he then booked me an appointment at the Breast Care Unit at the nearby hospital for a Breast Ultrasound.

I was also wondering, what other tests and scans could I ask for other than a Breast Ultrasound?

  • Hi J_Smith,

You can find out about the different types of tests and scans just here but if you'd like to get our cancer nurses thoughts on this then do give them a call on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope this helps and wish you all the best with your consultation on the 1st.

    Kind regards,
