22 year old going for a mammogram. The wait is killing me.

I'm a 22 year old student, i found a small little moving lump in my left boob that came before i had my period. After my period stopped it kind of disappeared but then i found another one little bigger on the same boob (left) a bit in the outer section. It does move a little bit. My mom forced me to go to the doctor, she said it's probably nothing but she sent me a referral to a clinic so they can check it out. I have to wait a long time since i'm not a priority.

Ever since then, i've gotten weird symptoms that i cannot describe or find online. Where my lump is in my left boob, there is a very very weird sensation that does not go away. It feels like i have pins and needles in that lump. Even without touching it, it feels as if something is moving in there. There is a slight pain now in my armpit connecting to that area- with the same pins and needles feeling. My arm is now affected. Same sensations which also radiates to my leg- all the same place on the left part of my body where the lump is. My boobs look fine, nothing looks weird in the outside. I am incredibly scared and can't study at all. Ive missed almost all my assignments because what's the point of doing them if i'm going to be sick....i won't have the energy for it in the future anyways. I'm trying to find a private clinic so i can get it over with :( I'm so scared. I have a slight headache on the left side of my head as well.

Im trying to calm myself down, telling myself it's nothing- but even if it is something dangerous i can deal with it. I'm having suicidal thoughts now. I just wanted to get it all out there. I am sending all my prayers and positive wishes for everyone who has to deal with this.

  • Hi there ...

Oh my ... please take a deep breath ... my first four lumps over the years were all benign ... 8.5 out of ten are o.k ... and the younger you are the chances of being o.k is a lot more ... I've had hard lumps ... movable lumps ... one like a flat pebble ... they were nothing .. I just had lumpy boobs ... yes I did have a positive lump but I'm in my 60s ... and l know lots of us that had breast cancer and lots of us are doing o.k ... the treatments have come a long way...

So chances are your fine ... we all panic while we wait ... but Drs are extra careful now and send all little lumps for testing ... so hold on in there ... if your feeling overwhelmed,  call McMillan... though they are there Monday to Fri... but come on you can do this ... and you just maybe o.k ... Chrissie....

  • Hi, I'm 21. Well, 22 in a week lol

I went to breast clinic after being referred to them through my GP they saw me fairly quickly even though mine wasn't an urgent referral. Breast clinics are really good with appointments. The first time I had a lump I was 18/19 and it was a benign fibroadenoma. This time I just had breast changes. Odds are if you're feeling the same thing on the other side it's likely glandular tissue as that's what I was feeling. However on my ultrasound They found my fibroadenoma had shrunk down from 2.5cm to 0.3cm! Lol and it hurt a lot when she put the probe on there. The rest of the day it felt like pins abs needles from the prodding and poking! ESP with cold hands!!

they usually do ultrasounds on girls our age as the younger you are the more dense your breast tissue is and the glandular tissue can be difficult for them to see through on mammograms. Women who are older have their glandular Tissue replaced with fat so mammograms are more suited to them, however everyone's breasts are different!

I can't say don't worry as I know the feeling, however breathe, you will know more very soon & im praying you get the results you want x

feel free to message me if you want support or someone to talk to xxx

  • Hello Sarasnism,

A big welcome to our forum. You have received some really good advice from our lovely Chriss and from Justlookingforsomehelp who seems to have had a very similar experience. As she said, even though it is normal to be worrying at the moment, try and take a deep breath and not to get overly anxious about it as you will know more very soon and you are in the most capable hands. Waiting for an appointment can be really stressful as time seems to pass really slowly. We have some tips here to help you cope while waiting for important news.

If it all gets too much or you feel you have too many dark thoughts, don't hesitate to give Samaritans a call. I noticed you are living in Sweden so the Swedish version of Samaritans can be found on this page. Don't hesitate to get in touch with them if you need to talk to someone.

I hope you feel a little bit better now and I am keeping everything crossed for you that you don't have to wait long to be seen at the breast clinic and that you can get some definite answers soon.

    Best wishes,
