Private breast screen due to covid delays

Hi all,

I was referred for an urgent breast screen a couple of weeks ago, after I found a lump in my right breast. I have been in a lot of pain in my neck and shoulder since the end of 2018 where I had someone go into the back of my friends car and I was in the back and I put it down to whiplash but it never got better. I am now having horrendous thoracic pain and shoulder blade stiffness and movement is really uncomfortable. I've become really short of breath recently, just before I found the lump, as it feels harder to breath in. I rang the breast screening clinic and they said I would not be seen for a couple of months, so I have booked in privately which is costing a fortune but I'm absolutly going out of my mind with worry. Has anyone else done this? If so, if the lump is found to be cancerous does the referral back to the nhs take ages??

thanks

  • Hello Stressed.com,

What a shame that the breast screening clinic could not see you for a couple of months. I hope that your appointment at the private clinic goes well - we'll be keeping everything crossed for you.

Hopefully others who have also gone down the private route will be along shortly and answer your questions. I thought I would also share this link from our website comparing NHS with private cancer treatment. There is also useful information on this page from the NHS website about this, for example on the question of whether your NHS care is affected if you pay for private treatment.

    I hope this helps!

Best of luck for your appointment,
