  • Hello vic.r

I'm sorry to hear that you're waiting to have surgery for a suspected phyllodes tumour.

Phyllodes tumours are rare and most are non-cancerous (benign). Surgery is the main treatment for phyllodes tumours. It is usually the only treatment you need.

Rarely, the phyllodes tumour can be cancerous (malignant) and may have spread to other areas. In this case, you may need further treatment. There's some really useful information about these types on tumours on the Macmillan website which I've linked for you here

If you'd like to talk to one of our team of nurses about your concerns you're most welcome to give them a call. I'm sure they will be able to offer you some advice and support. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello Jenn,

Thank you for replying to me and thank you for the link and phone number.

The consultant has told me that the day before my surgery I'll be going in for a wire marker and he said it will stick out of my breast!! It sounds ghastly do you know anything about this procedure?

Im sorry about all the questions!
    Many Thanks

    Vicky

  • Hi Vicky

We do have some information here about the wire that you've mentioned.

I know that it sounds scary but the Consultant will make sure that you have plenty of local anaesthetic so you won't feel any pain and the wire will be securely and safely fastened once it's in place. Don't worry you won't be walking around with a large piece of wire poking out of your breast.

Do give the nurses a call next week for a chat.

    Best wishes,
