hemithyroidectomy

Hi

I have had half of my thyroid removed due to nodules on both sides but right side had a nodule about the size of a cherry tomato.Biposy couldn't tell whether malignant or not so advised surgery.I was very worried about the procedure as I really didn't expect the surgeon to say I needed an operation anyway 2 weeks later and I am recovering well.Still have pain in my neck and croaky throat on and off.

Next Wed I return to hosp for results and to see if otherside needs to be removed too.Has anyone had this experience of having to return for more surgery ? if so how is it done with a scar still healing?

Thank you.

  • Hello TWymer,

A warm welcome to Cancer Chat. I am pleased to hear you are recovering well after your operation despite the pain in your neck and the croaky throat. I hope that you make a speedy full recovery.

Best of luck for your appointment on Wednesday. I hope that you get good results. Hopefully you will hear from others here who have also needed further surgery and I hope that some of our members who have been through this before will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you for your appointment on Wednesday.

    Best wishes,
