Scared of getting mis diagnosed

Hi,

I'm 35 none smoker none drinker.I have recently gone to my gp as I'm terrified.I have noticed my face is getting thinner and I've looked inside my mouth and noticed the back part where the food/drink drops is smaller too.I also noticed my glands in my neck are hard, under armpits are hard and sometimes uncomfortable to move and one in my groin area which has now gone into my balls area.I have also noticed my elbows and the back of knees have swollen.I'm getting nightsweats on a night. Also a pain in my rib cage area.

I went to my gp after begging for the emergency appointment. He checked me over and said everything is fine but I am not convinced.I went to the A&E just to be seen just in case I thought it was covid but the dr there said everything was fine.

I forgot to mention I get headaches with my face thinning. Also I can only have small bites and sips due to how swollen the glands are in my neck

I got blood tests Monday but I don't want the same reaction your fine there's nothing wrong with you.

Do I push further and beg for a specialist to see me or get an ultrasound or x-ray?

  • Hi

I have cancer and my blood tests came back clear.  But my throat was visibly cancerous so the blood tests were neither here nor there really.

Remember doctors are only human.   The stress and obvious anxiety you are going through is no good for your health.  Even for piece of mind I would make an appointment at your doctor,  but maybe ask to see a different doctor.   Ask your doctor to refer you to ENT.  Hopefully they will agree.  Do keep in mind that covid may mean a bit of a wait, this is simply to protect us all.

    Hope you find answers.

  • Thank you.

I'm literally terrified as it's been happening since 2013 and I used to push the headaches away as tiredness but then I'd notice my face thinning.I'm scared it might be too late as I've waited to long.Hopefully when I see my doctor I will ask to see the ENT.

  • You're welcome

Your stress and anxiety can cause headaches, tiredness and wait loss.  It also lowers your immune system which can make you feel rubbish.

Be honest with the doctor and tell them about how you are feeling mentally and physically.  They do what they do because they want to help.  You will get the odd one that's an idiot, but you'll get that in any walk of life.

Good luck and try and stay positive.

  • Hi MartM,

You need to take a step back and look dispassionately at the facts.

Cancer is rare in anyone under the age of 60. Not unknown, but rare.

Anxiety and depression are very common in your age range. Health anxiety is very real and causes physical symptoms similar or even identical  to those you have described.

By all means arrange to see another GP, but please try to keep an open mind about the possibility that your symptoms might indicate health anxiety.

    Good luck

    Dave
