Pain in neck and ear pain ongoing

I've got hashimotoes thyroiditis and multi nodules in my neck. I had a 2mm pap cancer removed along with half my thyroid 7 years ago. A year and a half ago I had a FNA for a nodule they was unsure about then changed their minds as they were doing it. Now for the last 6 months I've had five different infections sinus, chest, urine. I had two lots of antibiotics for a tooth infection too. I've complained to the doctor about repeated up and down tempreture which are mostly low grade, I've been seen at a rapid response ent clinic for ear seringe and to see if infection but none. They told me my swollen lymph nodes were from the infections and from not drinking enough water.

A week later and I've severe on and off pain in my left side of neck, with left ear pain and it hurts to swallow on that side too. This is the same side they did the biopsy too. It hurts occasionally when I turn my head from left to right.

I've been referred for a scan but not a 2ww one. Should I call to just request one? Did anyone have the same symptoms and they were cancerous?

  • Hi Lon78,

I'm sorry to read of the difficulties you're experiencing at the moment. It sounds as if the doctors aren't too worried about this but I can understand your concerns. If you have questions about it, the only thing to really do is to speak to your doctor. You can always raise the possibility of an urgent referral, even if it's just to understand their reasons for not giving you one. I'm sure it would also be useful to have an idea of how long to expect to wait for your referral.

Meanwhile if anyone here has any similar experience then hopefully they'll be along soon.

    Wishing you all the best,
