Hysteroscopy experience - could u let me know what it's like

Hi

After having a vaginal ultrasound on thursday due to suffering postmenopausal bleeding I have now been told I need a hysteroscopy which is booked for 19th Jan. I just wondered if people could share their experiences of this procedure.  Thank you. X

  • Hi there I have had mine done today after having a bleed after having no periods for 16 months. Please don't read all horror stories like I did, you will frighten yourself to death, its honestly not that bad.when  I arrived I had a meeting with a lovely lady who carried out my procedure.  They show you a diagram and explain the procedure and anything that could go wrong  very small chance of it happening  and you sign a consent form. I then went into treatment room and into the chair I wore a long skirt which I kept on just pulled it up with sheet over after removing underwear. I was offered local anesthetic  which if you can do have ,I had 2 injections in cervix area hardly felt a thing like a little sting. I couldn't really see what was happening a thin tube like thing is passed up inside was a little uncomfortable but nothing horrible they put some liquid in to help with procedure which felt fine. There is a monitor and you see all inside what the doctor can see,it was quite fascinating she explained everything she was seeing, you done have to look if you don't want. The whole thing took about ten minutes it honestly wasn't that bad. Make sure you take painkillers an hour before, and take a pad as you bleed slightly afterwards. I was discharged everything was fine ,I feel a bit crapmy like when you have a period but apart from that fine. I Hope this helps and hope everything goes well for you.

  • Just seen this post and thank you for it! I'm due to go for one in 2 weeks and I've been reading the most scary posts!!! I'm so grateful to read one that's not so bad. The leaflet I was given says you can have a local do I will definitely ask for that. Thanks again

  • Hi

I have had 2 in the past for Post menopausal bleeding . The first one I had done in the treatment room of the hospital , it was uncomfortable but felt like mild period pains .
I had polyps which were later removed during surgery .
the last one I had done was 4 weeks ago for another Post

menopausal bleed . I couldn't tolerate it this tIme so I had an epidural at a later date .  I had no pain after the epidural wore off .

The hospital staff were lovely though and said to tell them if it hurt and they would stop . I'm not sure why my second one hurt more than the first .
I hope yours going isn't too uncomfortable
