Found a lump

Hiya!

I've just come here for a bit of reassurance and ask some questions really, last month I found a lump in my right breast, it is quite firm, about an inch wide when I pinch it standing up and painless, but I can only really feel it when I stand up, when I lay back with my arm over my head it basically disappears, is this normal for a lump? Do cancerous ones stay firm? I'm only 27 so I feel like cancer should be one of the last things on my mind and now I can't get it out!

When I read that some lumps are 'mobile' what does that actually mean? I can move the lump around, but not alot, I can't move it to the other side of my breast, but can move it from side to side etc.

I'm currently breastfeeding my 1 year old if that makes any difference? It's definitely not mastitis as there is no pain there whatsoever.

I was referred to the breast clinic under the 2 week wait and my appointment is on the 19th (which seems like forever away!) I'm constantly crying, worrying, and imagining being told the absolute worst. I have 3 small children (5,2 and 1) and I'm absolutely petrified I won't see them grow up. I have massive anxiety under normal circumstances and this has just made it a whole lot worse!

Thank you x

  • Hello Char7393

I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with some breast changes which have led to a referral to breast clinic. It's understandable that you're feeling worried about what this may be.

The changes that you've noticed could certainly be related to the fact that you're breastfeeding your youngest child and it may help you to keep in mind that the majority of women who attend breast clinic are not diagnosed with cancer.

I think you might find it helpful to give our team of nurses a call. I'm sure they will be able to answer some of your questions and offer you some reassurance ahead of your appointment. If you'd like to speak to them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
