Enlarged tonsil terrified of cancer

Hi I'm a 21 year old female I don't smoke nor drink to much I have always had issues with tonsillitis and getting it a few times a year but nothing major antibiotics did the trick. A few months ago I noticed my tonsil was swollen and I had tonsil stones which I was able to get the majority of them out. I then had antibiotics which didn't work and was referred to the ENT to see if it is cancer due to Covid I have to have a phone appointment which is in a weeks time before anyone will actually look at my throat. I'm absolutely petrified as I feel like if it is cancer it will be a death sentence and I still have so much more I want to do with my life has anyone had anything similar ? I have also noticed I'm burping a lot and sometimes have a burning feeling kind of like acid reflux when I burp

  • Hey,

just wanted to say I'm really sorry you are currently going through this I know how scary it is! I'm going through something really similar to you. It's been going on for nearly 4 months and I'm finally being seen for an US next Tuesday.
I had acid reflux then feeling like I have lumps in my throat and and constant burning feeling when I burp and swallow. Noticed one of my tonsils swollen and the other almost gone which is weird.. doctors just kept brushing it off as acid reflux etc but I kept pushing for more answers.

have they done any blood tests for you?? I would request that if not. Or even call 111 for some advice I've done that a few times now. Covid is making everything harder as well as doctors don't want to see you.
I've got lumps in the side of my neck too so pretty worried but got to hope it's something else.

it could be you have had acid reflux and it has irritated your throat and made your tonsil swell up. Drink plenty of water and stay off acidic foods see if it calms it down.

I hope you are okay and stay positive hopefully you will get answers soon xx

  • Hey I'm in a similar boat currently waiting for a biopsy did you find out what was going on?

  • Hey Amelia,

sorry to hear you are going through a similar thing. Unfortunately I never got answers, I still have swollen lymph nodes but they haven't got bigger and it's been over a year now. I think potentially I had Coeliac disease as I've gone gluten free and I've got much better. It's just still lingering but I think the doctors have done as much as they can.

I'm hoping your biopsy returns good news and they find answers for you to get you better!
