Liver cancer early signs?

Hi,

Hopefully, I'm just being a hypochondriac here, but I was wondering what the early signs were for any liver cancer sufferers or their loved ones that use this site.

I have had an all-over itch for about 3 weeks now, some painful lymph nodes in my left groin area since Boxing Day (which seem to have subsided a bit) and bloods taken a few days ago are showing normal liver function except a highish GGT of 86. The GP thinks the GGT may be a result of the 'Christmas excess' (although I drank only moderately) and isn't convinced that the itching is related. Bloods will be repeated in early February after a month of abstinence to see if the GGT is back in normal range.

I suffer from IBS, and maybe that could be related - dunno?

Anyway, any advice or experience would be much appreciated.

  • Hi Samjef11,

The Ultrasound came back clear, but the Sonographer said he could only see some of the pancreas so it wasn't 100% coverage (although obviously good to know that my liver, gallbladder etc. seem fine).
I still have a point pain on my abdomen (right side of the 'centreline') that I'm noticing more and more, and the Sonographer said it seemed to be more in the bowel area. I have no clue about the anatomy, and hope my pancreas is clear!!
The point of concern is 6cm 'north' of my bellybutton and then 3cm right of centre.......is that bowel?

I had a clear colonoscopy in October 2018, so unless they missed something then, I am struggling to understand how polyps could develop in 27 months (the common figure seems to be > 5 years).

It's a weird one as, although I seek some solace in the clear US and mostly normal bloods inc. CRP and ESR, there is definitely something awry, and the GP now wants me to see a Gastroenterologist (by 'see', at best it'll be a video call).  Cheers.

  • I ended up having a CT Colonography and I get the results tomorrow afternoon. Repeat LFT bloods showed that the Gamma GT level had risen a little bit despite a month of abstinence. Abdominal pain still very much present and I'm expecting some 'news' but hopefully not serious, we'll see.

  • Well, turns out I have a 2cm tumour in my right kidney. Being passed over to a urologist (from the gastroenterologist) for an appointment next week. Desperate for a chest CT now to confirm whether or not it's in my lungs too.

I was surprised to learn that, sometimes they do nothing and just perform 'active surveillance' !  My instinctive thought would be to go under the knife though.
