Could i have bladder cancer?

Looking for some advice really...

5 weeks ago i noticed for 2 whole days that i was passing blood in my urine enough to turn it bright red. Couple of days later i started to experience UTI syptoms-burning when peeing and only being able to pass small volumes.

I thought i may have been passing a kidney stone so flushed by self out. Couple days passed and i rang my GP and was given a course of antibotics, provided a sample that was sent off for cultures, 5 days later i finished my course which did help but as soon as i stopped the burning returned called doctors again provided an other course, but told that no infection wad found so repeated.

same happened again and i ended up attending walk in centre over the christmas period. My urine showed blood and protien. Given more antibotics and told to give my GP another urine sample, had this done along with a fasting blood test. Again all came back fine, so been referred to urologist and for a ultra sound - not sure how long i will be waiting for these appointments in the current crisis.

i am really worried and struggling to deal with the constant need to pee, weather it a little bit or large volumes, the burning feeling and i am up 3/4 times a night to go for a pee and have none stop pressure/dull pain in my left hip/pelvic area going down my left leg.

is there anyone who might have had similar syptoms shine some advice or experience my way. Everything that comes up on internet is UTI's and it feels nothing like when i previously had kidney stones

thank you :)

  • Hello

Well not too sure where to start so I hope I don't ramble on too much.

Over two months ago I thought I had a uti low pelvic pain frequently passing urine the usual symptoms I was given an antibiotic which made the pain worse, dr then prescribed a different antibiotic which I thought helped but two days later still more pain so I was told over the phone by the locum dr to stop taking which I did. The pain has continued to get worse the gp won't see me but referred me to gynaecologist who I saw Monday they say apart from a slight bladder prolapse no problems with uterus so no ovarian cancer.   I purchased a urine dip stick test when I first had the symptoms of a uti and this showed blood on and off which I told my gp

i can't see visible blood in my urine but the dipstick showed blood several times. My urine tests don't show any infection nor did my gps sample.

I have since spoken to my gp for a referral for a check for bladder cancer as the pain in the pelvic region is affecting me daily I am taking several pain killers everyday as soon as I open my eyes in the morning I am taking two paracetamol then throughout the day along with putting a hot water bottle on my tummy.

I have low back pain which is worse when a bad wave comes the pain is constant but increases at times that is so bad I could cry the back pain gets much worse when I have a bad wave of pain. My dr didn't want to refer me but I insisted his words were you don't want to be going for tests in hospital while we have a pandemic my words back was I am in pain everyday it's been over two months since the pain started I have tummy bloating and I am up three four times in the night along with passing urine many times in the day. I feel a dragging pain after I pass urine low down in the pelvic area central pain where the bladder is. I am told by my gp that I may have to wait a long time for my referral appointment due to the covid pandemic.

I can only hope the referral is not too long a wait.

My symptoms are pelvic pain bloating tiredness frequency passing urine sometimes I have nausea and lightheadiness I have lost one and a half stone in the last six months but I think that's been due to trying a wheat free diet.

  • Hi Lorraine.

Hope you are well. Do you have an update on your condition? Has I'm improved?

  • Hello

    Thank you for the message

I am awaiting a procedure called cystoscopy. I believe this allows the bladder to be seen in more detail. I'm concerned about having this procedure.  I'm worried it could cause a bad Uti infection and ongoing health problems, two neighbours who live nearby have had this procedure and ended up with terrible pain and an infection. The antibiotic they prescribe is called Nitrofurantoin. which can also cause other side effects with lung damage being one of them, sadly my neighbour has experienced this side effect even though when she raised her concerns about taking it she was told it was a rare side effect. She has been left with permanent lung damage. I haven't had the bad tummy pains I was having previously just extreme fatigue and the usual problems with having auto immune conditions Inc fibromyalgia oral lichlen plantus several food and drug allergies but my weight has stabilised at 50Kg the abdominal ultrasound didn't show anything suspicious except slightly fatty liver and two small polyps in the gallbladder which were seen back in 2013 and haven't changed in size also the urine test taken at my appointment with the urogynacologist only showed microscopic blood. I know some people just have blood in the urine with no reason for it.

I am still researching the cystoscope procedure and undecided on what to do.
My gp has booked a blood test on the 14th February as he wants to check for lupus.
I really want to find out what's wrong with me. I have many other health issues not related to the bladder as much as I don't obviously want to have lupus I just want to find out what's wrong with me.
    Best Regards

    Lorraine

  • Hi Lorraine, any news? I'm waiting to be investigated for microhematuria too and guess I'll be having a cystoscopy. How did yours go?
