Milk duct removal

Hi all,

Over lockdown I started getting pain under my left armpit and in the left breast and some blood stained nipple discharge. I left it around 7 months before finally seeing my GP who referred me to the clinic, they did a mammogram that found nothing and an ultrasound that found a few enlarged lymph nodes in November, but as they couldn't extract any 'blood/fluid' left me for 4 weeks until mid December to see me again. Much was the same at the December appointment and I returned on Monday this week and on examination there was discharged from the nipple and just below it too. So now I'm booked in for full milk duct removal on the 18th January. Im 41 this Friday, and scared that with a tumour thats benign on my pituitary gland in my brain and uncontrollable epilepsy, this could be more bad news on the way! I've had several benign lumps removed from my breasts since my early 20's so the surgery itself isn't worrying me, I guess its the combination of the bleeding, swollen nodes, and the speed they are doing it even with this pandemic happening.

Sorry to be new and downloading but, with teenage children, and a amazing husband whose mum has terminal breast cancer currently, I feel like I can't lay my concerns on to him right now.

  • Hello Mercy100

I'm sorry to hear about all that you have going on at the moment. It sounds like it's a very difficult time for you and for all the family and I can understand why you may be feeling anxious and overwhelmed.

I had a little look at the forum and I found this post which [@vslaine]‍ posted just a few days ago. You might find it helpful to have a look at her post and also the reply that Moderator Lucie has given her as it links to a few other members who have had this surgery as well as an active thread about duct excisions.

We know that it can be difficult to stay positive during these tough times and it can often help to talk things through with someone. If you'd like to chat to one of our nurses I'm sure they will be able to offer you some support and reassurance. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that all goes smoothly with your surgery and that the results bring good news.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
