Pain after breast biopsy

I had a breast biopsy last week and apart from some bruising everythings been fine. These past couple of days Ive had some aches and pains in my breast, radiating to my armpit and shoulder. Is this normal? I get my results Thursday but im not sure if the pains from the biopsy, or if its an indication of something worse :(

  • Hi,

I had a breast biopsy on Christmas Eve I have a lot

of bruising and sharp pain I also had a marker put in the lump. I rang my doctor and they gave me antibiotics but stopped taking them as they made me feel sick.

I think the pain is normal I've had 7 previous biopsy's on benign lumps and I've never had pain like this!

Im also hopeful that I will get my results on Thursday

hope everything goes well for you!

    Vic

  • Thank you for your reply! I've never had anything like this done before as I'm only 22 :(

I can't take this all in it's so surreal, I found the lump and I was fully expecting it to be a cyst, but the nurse with me looked like she was going to try!

I had the marker put in too!

i was supposed to go in for my results Thursday but due to now having to isolate, I'll get them over the phone, not sure if that's better or worse xx

  • I had my first lump at 18 and had it removed all my lumps since I've had removed, I'm now 38, I gave up two years ago and just decided to ignore any lumps but had mentioned it to a work colleague and I got the lump looked at.

I would imagine the pain is due to the Marker I'd never had a marker previously so it's all new to me too.

This forum is a great way to speak to others in a similar position and every one is so helpful.

I hope your results come back Positive.

Always here to chat if your concerned

  • Thank you Vicky! I've noticed my lump has grown quite a lot, I'm hoping that's a positive thing!!

they never specified what it was, but do you think I could rule out cyst purely because the marker needs to attach to something?

im hoping and praying for Fibroadenoma!! Wish you all the best xxx

  • When I went on Christmas Eve I had a Cyst drained from my right breast and the Lump Biopsy and marker done to my Left breast, So I'd think that a marker isn't put in a cyst  ( I'm not an expert so I'm not really sure)

The feeling of it growing may be swelling inside due to the biopsy and marker so please don't panic,

When you speak to your consultant ( hopefully Thursday) Make sure you ask them and express your worry about it possibly growing.

And Write down all your questions and then you'll remember them when you speak to your consultant.

I do it all the time I have so many questions but when I get in the consultation room they fly out of my head and I forget !

  • Thank you so much for your reply. Really reassuring! 2 more sleepless nights to go! I can do this xxxx

  • Hi Ladies

Just back from having what I thought to be an aspiration on a cyst which had become bit painful. Fine needle aspiration was fine on that cyst but there was a deeper one which Dr wanted to aspirate and this one had blood in it and a slightly thickened borders - he said it might be due to previous aspiration which was end of Oct. Anyway had to have a core biopsy with marker (this is a first as never heard this term before and I have been attending breast clinic for 20 years). He said marker was because it makes it easy to spot which cyst is the troublesome one. Hope this helps.

  • Thank you that is reassuring!  X

  • Hi Vicky, hope all goes well today xx

  • They haven't called me yet!!

Have you received your results? Hope all's ok.
