Can I ask for a biopsy?

Hi all & Happy New Year,

I apologise if this is a bit long winded but I appreciate any advice that is offered.

Since October I have been extremely worried about swollen lymph nodes in my neck, clavicle and as of a few weeks ago my groin. I've gone down the anxiety wormhole a few times and lymphoma is at the forefront of my concerns at the moment, however I feel as if my doctor is leading me down a different path and I am worried that my lymph nodes are going to be overlooked as I have a large multinodular growth on my thyroid for the past five years and have previously had surgery to remove the left lobe, and there is still a sizeable lump in my neck from the right side.

I am waiting in a biopsy oF my thyroid, however I was wondering has anyone ever asked to have a specific lump or node biopsied to put their minds to rest? A recent ultrasound showed that my supraclavicular lymph node is hypoechoic, round in shape and that the fatty hilum is not visible. I know that these characteristics can be linked with cancer so I really want to get it biopsied, but my doctor has only requested a biopsy of my thyroid nodule!

Has anyone had a similar experience or advice as to what I should do?

thanks!

  • Hello Graciepops,

This is something you could definitely discuss with your doctor. You could mention your concerns and mention that you would like to know whether there would be any benefit in having a specific lump  biopsied. You could also, if you wish, try and get a different opinion on this. You can read more about this on this page

I hope that you will hear from others here who have had a similar experience and that they will be along shortly to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed that everything turns out fine for you!

    Best wishes,
