Breast marker/clip fitted

Hi all

i had a biopsy etc on Wednesday and they fitted a metal clip, should I be concerned? I know the purpose is to be able to find it easier, but would they have put it there if they weren't concerned?

  • Hello Katie

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had a biopsy. I know how worrying it can be when this happens and it's understandable that you may be feeling anxious about why a clip was inserted.

It's not uncommon for titanium markers or clips to be inserted when a biopsy is taken particularly if a lump can't be felt or the area that needs closer examination can only be seen on ultrasound or mammogram.

They are there so that should there be a problem that needs actioning the surgeons can easily identify those areas. However if there's no further action needed then it's safe for the clips to be left in situ and they won't cause any problem.

I hope that this offers you some small reassurance. I hope that your appointment on Thursday brings some positive news. Do make sure you let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
