Bowel Cancer Screening, bleeding stopped since taking sample

Hi, I'm 30 and I can google to much so thought I would ask in a forum

im being screened for bowel cancer. Have to wait a week before I get the results. I have had A few symptoms but the main one being excessive bleeding when opening my bowel for over a year 90% of the time. I've had to send a sample off which I did two days ago, on the day of doing the sample and ever since there's been no sign of blood. If the bleeding has stopped is that a good & positive sign? Is there less of a risk of cancer if the bleeding has stopped

  • Hello Hay and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm glad to hear that the bleeding seems to have stopped since you took your sample. Unfortunately the questions you ask, I cannot answer, but you're welcome to talk things through with our team of cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m so do give them a call if you feel this will help.

Waiting for results is always a challenge but we'll have our fingers crossed it won't be long before you get them back and they bring good news.

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you for replying. I'll hold tight for results

  • Hi I'm in the same kind of boat I been having really bad pain in my belly for over 2 years now. Last year I believe it was I was sent for a colonoscopy and they said I had diverticulitis and left it at that. Anyway the pain has carried on and just got worse. Over the last 6 months give or take I have had nothing but truble with my belly. And food every time I eat it feels like some one is giving my a kickin and them I'm stuck on the toilet for the rest of the day. Anyway the doctor's have finally decided to take notice and got me another colonoscopy booked this time for suspected lower GI cancer. I received my kit the other day and did it wrong I didn't bother to read the paperwork just looked at the pictures. Duhh so now I'm waiting on a new test kit but I think the word cancer is making me notice every little detail of pain I'm feeling. So making things even worse.

I'm glad your getting the help and good luck

  • Yeah I didn't know I was getting screened for it till the kit came through on New Year's Eve. When I went in for an examination she said I wasn't in the cancer risk facts because of my age, so thought they were looking into other stuff before they looked into cancer. Knocked me side way.
im an overthinker at the best of time, but living alone and being furloughed during a 3rd lockdown it gives me lots of time to think and google and think back to all the stuff I've found out from blood tests over the last 6 month when looking into my eczema and severe skin reactions and flare ups. And they are a sign.

I wish you all the luck in the world you get the answers you need and get you back onto the road to better health

  • You know what's interesting I have had a rash start up on my right arm. When I started getting more pain and the trouble with my bowels. I told the doctor this and they just gave me some cream for it. I received my letter on the 23rd/24th December so completely killed my Christmas. I live alone myself so i know having no distractions is a mind ***.

  • I've always suffered with eczema but not to this extreme and discomfort

hopefully it's all just an awful coincidence along with blood tests

  • Yea well finger's crossed for you. Do you notice any pain pain on your stomach buy just running your fingers over it ?. I have two spots that just a light touch feels like a hot knife touching me so so odd lol

  • No I don't, pain wise is just bad cramps like a stabbing pain now and again which I put down to normal cramps and never associated with anything
