Dent found on breast

Hello,

I am 41 years old and have recently noticed what looks like a long verticle dent on my left breast, on the outside. It looks like it curves round at the bottom around the nipple but further below. It's ever so slight (more like a shadow) and sometimes, in some lights you can't even see it. My left breast is quite lumpy so I'm not sure what a cancer lump would feel like as there are so many on that side compared to my right breast. I also feel like there is more pain on the left breast than the right. It's not there all the time but sometimes I do feel a dull ache. It's there at the moment but I am due my period in 2 weeks so maybe it is because of that? But this dent  is always there. I initially just brushed it off as a stretch mark as my breasts have become saggier after having had children (13 years ago) and also fluctuating in weight may have had an affect on them. My mum is currently having treatment for breast cancer too so I am petrified that I'm going to have it too.

a few years ago I did have an accident and poured hot water all the way down my front which mainly went over that breast and I burned all the skin off the nipple, areola and around. It healed really well... you wouldn't notice anything had ever happened and I wonder if it could be anything to do with that?

Anyway, I've been referred to the breast clinic on the 11th of jan but the wait is killing me. I've been looking on google and everything points to cancer. In my head I think I have it and it's really getting me down. Has anybody had anything similar?

  • Hello Mjrl,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum.  I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting to be seen at the breast clinic. Not too long to wait now though even though I can imagine each day is passing very slowly.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online as it will always bring the worst case scenarios. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi

i too have discovered small dent in lower curve of right breast and lumpy area underneath. Found it on 2/1/2021 . I'm terrified. Will phone Gp tomorrow but now scared I won't get seen as in full lockdown. Ive been on HRT oestrogen tablets for 8 years following hysterectomy. I'm beyond scared!!!

    Hi Mjrl,

This is always a scary wait and your mind plays all sorts of tricks on you, especially when there is a family history.

I agree with Lucie's advice. Steer clear of the internet until you know what you are dealing with and try to distract yourself from the wait by keeping busy.

Many ladies have naturally lumpy breasts, so here's hoping that this is the case with you. Do please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kindest regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hello Lucie,

Thank you... Yes you are completely right, I shouldn't look on Google so much because I've realised that it doesn't matter what symptom you put in, Cancer is always included in the results. Just counting the days now.

  • Hello Johnstone,

Sorry to hear this... I completely know how you are feeling. They will definately refer you to a breast clinic... even through lockdown as it is a medical urgency. Let us know how you get on? Just out of curiosity... does the area you talk about hurt at all? Mines really achey.

let us know how you get on.

  • Hi mjrl, I know your post is a good few months old now and I really hope your outcome was positive, but wondered if you would be happy to share your outcome? I attended my gp over 1 month ago as had left breast pain for 3 months, on examination she couldn't feel any lumps thankfully and said my breast is very glandular so referred me to breast clinic and I am on a long waiting list to be seen. However today I have noticed a kind of indentation curving under the nipple on my left breast which is new so wanted to speak with others that have gone through the same thing.
