colonoscopy wednesday

First of all thanks for reading this:

long story short:

abdominal pain with change in bowelmovements since 7 months.

blood checked: all good, stool and calprotectin checked: all good, ultrasound for diverticulitis: all good

I had blood and bloody mucus in stool once 2 months ago (after this i had the calprotectin test).

dr. kept on saying it was IBS as calprotectin was normal it wasn't something worrysome.

I however wasn't so sure and getting anxious so demanded an appointment with a specialist who tested me for celiac disease.

This was also negative.

Due to the contact pain, diarhea and blood in stool once she did however referred me for an urgent colonoscopy which i will have next wednesday.

of course the word " urgent" made my anxiety levels rise.

so now it will be 6 days of nailbiting and trying not too ask dr. Google too much.

The fact that my calprotectin levels are normal should mean that there is only a small change of cancer (of course i googled this ;) ) but some people win the lottery too.

Does anyone have of have had the same symptoms? as we say in the netherlands : shared sorrow is half sorrow

  • Hi please let me know how you get on, I'm still waiting for my 'urgent' colonoscopy 2 weeks later, my symptoms are getting worse and my anxiety is through the roof. I've received my prep through the post the packets are massive. I'm just convinced it's going to be the worse news possible. My bloods were all ok but positive FIT test x

  • Of course scared_mummy.

Believe me, i know how you feel! I have 2 small boys aged 4 and 5 and am already scared to bits I won't see them grow up (i know, dramatical...but you get overly anxious when you've been asking the dr. For a specialist appt for the last bloody 6 months).

    What are your symptoms?

  • Stupid I know but I had blood in my stools for months which I assumed were piles. Then a few weeks ago I felt as though my bowel wasn't empty after a movement and noticed very soft stools but I was going daily . This is when I made an appointment with my GP. Now I'm constipated and when I go it's blood and liquid. I'm so worried it's spread because I was an idiot and assumed it was piles, if I went months ago I could be sorted now recovering.

  • Same here, nagging pain left abdomen started in may followed by soft stools. I finally went to my GP who said it was ibs and since september i have been back 4 times before i was finally fed up and demanded an appt. With a specialist and then the upper abdomen cramping started in combination with loss of appetite. Now i am hitting myself on the head for not speaking up sooner. But hey, at least we are going now and taking action!

  • Yes upper abdomen discomfort for me too. Loss of appetite but think that's probably down to my stress and anxiety. I'm so fed up and suffering low moods. My poor Dad suffered and was misdiagnosed at 58. I say constantly I'd do anything for my young children so why didn't I go to Doctors sooner I feel like I've let myself and my children down. But yes you're right at least we're taken action now I just pray for it not to be sinister.

  • I assume my loss of appetite is mainly due to my anxiety too. Lost my dad at 56 to cancer and I always said to myself I wouldn't let it get that far before going to the doctor...yet, here we are.

like you mentioned, i am fed up too. This whole thing has me quite worked up and i just want to get this over and done with.

Let's hope are worries are for nothing.

  • I promised to keep you updated and just want to tell you all went well and nothing sinister was seen.

Take care and try to not think about it too much (nearly impossible i know)

  • Aww I'm so pleased for you, I was awaiting for an update from you. I'm still waiting for my appointment and can only pray I can share the same news.

    Take care xx

  • I am sure you willget the same results.

    Keep me posted!
