Breast biopsy repeat

I had a mammogram and USS with core tissue biopsies for a breast lump in December. The mammogram and USS did not reveal anything concerning, but the Consultant was not happy that the physical examination and the scans were representative of what he could feel. The biopsy results revealed normal tissue but I have to have the biopsies repeated on 6th Jan. Just wondering if is likely that the wrong area was biopsies? Also what percentage of repeat biopsies come back malignant? I had endometrial cancer last year and a strong family history of breast cancer.

  • Hello Lilypad

I'm sorry to hear that you're having some investigations of a breast lump at the moment. It's understandable that you're feeling concerned especially as you've not long ago had another cancer diagnosis and you have a family history.

It's good to hear that the Consultant wants to make absolutely sure what is going on and hopefully your biopsy next week will give a clear picture about what this lump is.

Sometimes it can help to talk things through with someone and so if you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses ahead of your appointment next week you're welcome to call them. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm (excluding bank holidays) on 0808 800 4040. I'm sure they will be able to offer you some advice and information.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for the results. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
