Core Needle Biopsy

Hi!

I found a lump back in november in my right breast, considering i'm only 21, 20 at the time i found the lump, i thought it was nothing but a cyst- booked in an appointment with my GP who referred me to the breast Clinic.

i had my appointment on Christmas eve, and the consultant told me he thinks it's a cyst too, i then went for my ultrasound where the radiologist decided to do a core needle biopsy! it's safe to say i freaked out a little on the inside thinking the worst right away! i get my results sometime in January- the waiting is the worst part- especially having recently to just lost my mum to cancer my mind is running wild!!

i guess i'm just wondering if anyone has any advice on what i should do, or how to stop my mind from thinking the worst things possible. thank you :)

  • Hi Chloe,

This does freak you out, especially when you have recently lost your mum to cancer. I was in a similar position to you 11 years ago. Mum's breast cancer eventually metastasised in her bones, brain, liver and lungs, so I naturally thought the worst. Fortunately, this is not always the case and treatment has progressed so much in the interim.

Most of us consider this waiting period one of the worst times in our cancer journey. Try to steer clear of the internet and keep yourself busy to try and take your mind off the break. Read and relax before you go to bed - no TV or computer use for an hour beforehand.

At your age, it is more likely to be a cyst, so I hope that your GP and consultant are both right.

Do please let us know the outcome when you get your results.

    Here's hoping for good news.

    Kindest regards,

    Jolamine xx
