Above average levels in CA125

Hi, I recently starting having little twinges in my lower left side and being just over 50, having periods now more frequently and also a mum who died very suddenly from ovarian cancer at 69 a few years ago. I made an appointment at the doctors. The internal exam was normal. Bloods however, just back today show a very small elevated level. I think the doctor said 53. Sorry means very little to me data wise. They've arranged for an urgent scan. I suppose I'm just looking for a little reassurance that it's not an automatic path to the worst case scenario.
Any words of guidance would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance

  • Hi Nellie,

I'm sorry that you're in this situation. I'm currently having chemo and my markers came back really high. However my oncologist said that they can behave like that when there's no cancer in the body. For me personally he thought that my treatment is working and the cells are actually dead. Hopefully you'll be in the clear and not have any cancer at all.

I do hope that you're ok. In this kind of situation we find the waiting so difficult and completely overthink the situation. I suggest that you keep yourself busy and try not to dwell too much.

  • Thanks Barb. very pleased to hear the treatment seems to be working.

if I'm honest, I don't think I was expecting anything to come of the appointment. The symptoms are so slight, I thought I was being over keen.

Fingers crossed though it's a quick appointment and an all clear.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

All the best for the future xx
