Irregular bleeding - nervous and waiting

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all well - I've been reading this forum for quite a few months so here goes :)

I'm 31 with 1 daughter who is 3. I've always had regular periods with no issues at all. 28 day cycle and 5 day bleeds. In July this year I noticed a small amount of pink spotting mid cycle just once when I wiped. I thought nothing of it. The same thing happened in August and in September - always at different points in my cycle.  In October I had 2 separate days where there was more blood when I wiped. I called the doctor and booked a smear.

I went for my smear at the beginning of November and explained my symptoms. They made me do a pregnancy test which was negative and they did some high vaginal swabs. I'm not on any hormonal contraception. Smear test was negative for HPV and any other nasty - but easily treatable - infections.

Doctor then referred me for blood tests and a transvaginal ultrasound.  Ultrasound clinic have said they wont do it for 12 weeks as I wasnt referred urgently.  Blood test results have come back low in folate (prescribed folic acid) and slightly high for LH and FSH.

Since November 3rd to December 3rd I had 2 days where I didnt bleed. It has been much heavier and it's been hard to work out where one period stopped and the next one started. Clearly the symptoms were getting worse but I could never get through to the doctor. I managed to speak to a different doctor who said she still didnt think it warranted an urgent ultrasound and she would prescribe me Cerazette to stop the bleeding.

A week later I receive a phone call from the original doctor, disagreeing with the other doctor.  She has requested the she does an internal examination and that the ultrasound is now done urgently.

Sorry for the ramble! Just wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar.  Just trying to remain positive that due to my age statistically its unlikely to be cancer but I cant help but worry a bit!

Hoping to hear from someone :)

  • I've also had alot of irregular bleeding and huge clots and have around 3 days of non bleeding. But everything I do starts the bleeding again I can't even be intimate with my partner.

I've had a smear which came back with hpv and my doctor is concerned it's on my cervix too so I'm awaiting a colnoscopy and I'm really worried. Your not alone but I really hope u get positive results.

  • Girl, I hope you're doing okay...

I completely understand your worry and frustration with doctors.
I bleed from the beginning of august till the middle of November with no let up at all. Massive clots and heavy, uncontrollable bleeding. Lots of pain to the point I couldn't even walk round Tesco to get my groceries.

I have been referred "urgently" to gynaecology but have been told it will be May next year at the earliest.

I think you've done everything right and getting a second opinion from another doctor is always a good call. Just remember that you know your body better than anyone and if something doesn't feel right, fight until you're heard!!

sorry I can't give any definite answers or be of much help but remember there are lots of people fighting with you for better care in these areas.
I know how worrying it can be!

  • heya!

Sorry it’s so late! Up worried and can’t sleep , I’ve had irregular bleeding aswell.

so I was on the depo .. only had one months and didn’t go back in June because of lockdown .. I came back on in August .. two regular period that and November’s one was normal untill I came back on 2 days later Forbes a further week .. rang the drs I was due my smear but had to cancel twice because I was still bleeding , he sent me for bloods which came back clear and has booked me for a scan.. on the phone he said I had complained about irregular periods before - I don’t rember this only that I had a really heavy one before having the depo in june. Any way I stopped bleeding for a week had sex and the next day started bleeding lightly now it’s really heavy with cramps and earlyer I felt it sort of gush out (sorry for the info ) and when checked I had lots of clots!

I’m going to call the drs again in the morning I’m so worried!

  • Hi! I know this post was from 4 years ago but I was wondering what the outcome was? I’m in a very similar situation. X
