22 year old and have found several lumps! Please help

Hello,

I am 22 years old and I found a lump in my left breast about a month ago. It hurts sometimes (might be my prodding) but things feel worse as my attention is now always on it.

Today, I contacted my GP to book an examination, as my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer a few months ago and it's all very overwhelming but I know I need to get checked.

As soon as I booked the appointment, I found 2 more lumps in my right breast! The lumps are very moveable and squigy... yet also feel hard. Could this be a case of fibroadenoma?

The health anxiety from googling is really stressing me out, especially after finding out I have a family history. If there's anyone who has been in a similar position, or who has been diagnosed with multiple fibroadenoma, please let me know as it would be a great comfort.

Thank you

  • Hello Meg1998

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently found some breast lumps and also that your Mum was diagnosed with breast cancer not so long ago. It's absolutely understandable that you're feeling overwhelmed and worried about things.

It's not uncommon for young women to have lumpy breasts and it could be that the lumps you are feeling are fibroadenomas or other benign lumps. . Try to keep in mind that the majority of women who attend breast clinic are not diagnosed with cancer.

You did exactly the right thing by getting in touch with your GP. I do hope that you don't have to wait too long for your appointment and they are able to offer you some reassurance.

    Best wishes

  • Hello,

thanks so much for your reply! I'm waiting on the GP to get back to me, I've mentioned my family history so I'm hoping it's soon.

I am hopeful they are harmless due to the feel, my age, and the fact I have no serious other symptoms and only those related to benign conditions.

However this is me being positive so fingers crossed I can have my appointment and scans as soon as possible just in case!
