Cervical Cancer Worries

Hi everyone, I'm 47 years old and I have had abnormal bleeding now for 3 weeks. Not a heavy flow like a period, red blood when wiping and a little show on a panty liner. Went to the doctor last week who tried to take a smear but it was quite painful when the speculum was put in and she said there was a lot of blood so she didn't send the sample off for testing, they also tested my bloods which came back as normal. Thing is I'm worrying myself sick and visiting Dr Google quite a bit which isn't helping. I have been referred go Gynae but with the current situation I'm not sure how long it will be before I get an appointment. I would just like to ask if anyone knows how they are supposed to do a smear test if there is a lot blood there? You're always told that early diagnosis is so important but I just feel that I'm getting nowhere. Thank you xxx

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat, Bunnie73.

I'm sorry to hear about your symptoms and that you're, understandably concerned but do try to keep away from 'Dr. Google', if at all possible, there is a lot of unverified information out there that may do more harm than good. You have done all that was needed which was to go to your doctor and get your referrals, and while I can appreciate why you're worried that things are not moving fast enough there isn't much more you can do.

Hopefully, other forum members who can relate will pop here soon to chat with you as talking with those who share our concerns does seem to help.

    Stay strong, Bunnie73.

    Best wishes,
