Terrified referred 2 weeks wait

Hi,

I am absolutely terrified, just to fill you in. I've got endometriosis, I have had 2 ops to laser it and then Feb last year I had an ablation (lining of womb removed) I had an all clear smear last month. For the past 6 months my period pains and some bleeding has been returning. Getting what I felt was progressively worse. I called the doc who booked me for a scan (due in Jan) and she asked me to pop in for an examination. 

She examined me and said she'd like to refer me for an urgent 2 week referral as she can see some red patch/scar maybe on the top of my cervix. She said it could be endometriosis but she wanted to get it checked urgently to be sure. 

My girls are 4 and 7 and I can't leave them without a Mum. I am beyond Terrified. I am not sleeping. That was last Wednesday. They have sent me a letter to be seen for a transvaginal scan on Thursday. I'm so nervous, I was expecting a colposcopy and was hoping to be reassured maybe but now I think this will drag out for weeks and I'll be scared over Christmas. 

I don't know what to do with myself. I'm so so scared. 

Any words of wisdom would be greatly received.

    Hi MumofGirls, I've replied because my girls were 6 and 11 when I went through this but I had a full hysterectomy and never looked back, I'm now 72 years old and am fine.  So yes it is scary but I have scar tissue from the original operation which can cause me problems so it could be scar tissue.  The two week referral is not necessarily because they think you need seeing quickly it's government guidelines, so for example bleeding from anywhere is a two week referral, it's so they can check you early just in case.  It is so hard saying don't worry because we all do, but stay positive as all the worry in the world does not alter any outcome, good or bad.  I know this as my husband has lung cancer and I learnt the hard way that worrying makes you sick to your stomach but doesn't help.  So stay calm, enjoy Christmas and think positively, I hope this helps a little bit.  All the best for a happy outcome, Carol x

    Thank you so so much for you reply, your kindness has brought tears to my eyes. Its a terrifying prospect but I guess whatever the outcome it doesn't necessarily mean that I will have to leave my girls behind without a Mum. I am automatically heading for worst case scenario. I'm a complete state. 

    I'm so sorry to hear your husband has lung cancer. Sending you and him lots of love. 

    I will do my best to take your advice and stay calm and wait for the answers. And try and enjoy Christmas time with my girls and husband.

    Hi there

    I can relate so much to you, firstly I hope you're coping. I also have endometriosis, had an op to remove 2 fairly large cysts about 8 yrs ago. All fine since then until a couple of weeks ago when I started getting a dull ongoing pain on my lower right side. Eventually had to go to the doctors. He sent me for blood tests - CA125 came back as 40, then for an ultrasound and transvaginal ultrasound, this revealed a 7cm cyst and the ovary is swollen.  I've now been fast tracked and go to see a gynaecologist on Friday. I'm scared, I'm trying to keep positive and think it's the endo but can't help worrying about it being cancer.  It couldn't have happened at a worse time, plus it's my 50th birthday this week! What a way to celebrate!  Obviously, that's not important but I really hope that we're both ok. Love and hugs to you xx

    So sorry you're going through this worrying time too. Happy Birthday to you. What rubbish timing... not that there's ever a good time. 

    I hope and pray for both of us its just the endometriosis again.

    Hi, 

    I just wanted to update you. I had my scan yesterday and they saw nothing scary or anything strange to report. They are sending my scan  results over to the main hospital and I should hear soon about another appointment for them to check the redness on my cervix. But so far so good. Feel like a huge weight has been lifted as even if it does turn out to be cancer I'm now very hopeful that it would be very early as no masses or anything like that on the scans. I'm more inclined to say its probably endometriosis.
