Awaiting check at breast clinic

I found a lump in my left breast in August. I waited until my son's first day at school in September to see the GP as I am a single parent & didn't want to take him with me. I had a referral to the breast clinic as 'urgent' the same day. It's now December.. still not been seen but finally have an appointment on the 21st. The lump itself is not painful to touch but I do get a strange pain in said breast at times which is hard to explain but wondering if anyone else has experienced this while awaiting an appointment? I had a lump checked in my nipple area in the same breast some time last year & was told it was just a cyst. I'm hoping this larger one is the same but it's in the lower part of my breast and about four times the size of the one i have had checked previously. I am only 23 & I know its less likely to be cancer because of my age. Has anyone had the same kind of lump? Or sharp pain that comes & goes & it turned out to be something else? of course I'm telling myself its nothing but it feels like the longer I have waited the worse my anxiety has become & with the appointment being just over a week away its now really affecting my sleep & I just can't put it to the back of my mind like I have in the last few months. Tia for any response... x

  • Hello, the fact your doctor has been so prompt is brilliant, especially in the current climate, don't take it as urgent because it's bad, think of it more as they want to put your mind at rest.
Because you have previously had a cyst in the breast your more likely to have more cysts, some people are just more prone to them. I know it's hard but try not to worry or jump to conclusions, it could be something so simple like a cyst or fatty tissue.
Life is too short to waste time worrying about something that unfortunately is out of your control, if it's nothing then great, if it's something then you've caught it and there is treatment out there!

Please try to keep your chin up!
I'm keeping everything crossed for you that it's nothing serious

Keep us updated on how you get on chick!
