How do I get through the wait for the 2week cancer referral?

I am just looking at some tips to help me cope until I have my appointment next week. Like most people, I am worried sick about what is happening. I have had symptoms for 9-10 months and have been treated remotely by the GP practice who assumed it was something simpler and did no investigations. It is only now that my symptoms have become extreme and I am  unwell that they have taken notice. I stupidly tried to Google my symptoms and it said by that time the cancer is usually advanced and difficult to treat - so I immediately stopped looking! Not easy since I am a Registered Nurse. So I want some advice on how to keep going, to be able to continue to look after my husband and autistic son (who would not cope if he knew).

  • Hello FloraD,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting to find out more.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online.  Dr Google is never to be trusted! I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. There is useful information on this page on how to cope while waiting which I hope you will find helpful.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
