CT and MRI

My GP referred me under the cancer pathway for a CT scan. The plastics consultant also examined my right buttock (fatty tissue). He said everything was smooth and nothing looked sinister. Nothing was detected on the CT scan except my right buttock is firmer than my left one. I now have to have an MRI scan. The consultant is convinced it's not cancer but yet my MRI appointment is one week after seeing him.  I'm worried that the MRI appointment has come through very quickly even though the consultant said I'm no longer priority. Also if he doesn't suspect cancer why am I needing an MRI.

  • Hello JS999

I'm glad to hear that your CT scan didn't reveal any problems and at this point the Consultant isn't overly concerned. I'm sure that must have brought you some reassurance.

An MRI scan can produce clearer results than a CT scan for some parts of the body and for some types of tissues so hopefully this next scan may shed some light on what is going on for you.

We know that it can be a worrying time waiting for tests and results but try to keep positive and not read anything into how quickly this scan has been arranged.

Hopefully you will have some answers soon.

    Best wishes,
