Please can someone post their symptoms of Colorectal Cancer

Sorry to post here but I'm absolutely terrified and not coping at the moment.

I've had blood streaked stools for months now and over the past 2 weeks have the feeling that I've not fully empty after going to the toilet. Also I've had a couple of bloody very loose stools. I'm 48 and my Dad sadly passed away from bowel cancer his perforated due to misdiagnoses.

I finally found the courage to visit my GP who has said I need stool samples to send off and bloods taken. She did a rectal examination and was hoping to find piles but said she couldn't see any or any blood present so I need further investigation.

Please can someone tell me what their symptoms of colectal cancer was before been diagnosed. I'm so worried and convinced I have it

thanks for reading x

  • Hi Scared Mummy,

I am so sorry you are going through this awful time.  I am new to this forum, I was recently diagnosed with bowel cancer with the following symptoms (i hope this helps):

Diarrohea with blood (50-60 times a day) but any blood in dirrohea should be checked out regardless of the amount of times a day you go.

    Tiredness

    Bowel never feeling empty

Pain in my stomach ( sharp pains/ and cramping)

    Feeling sick

My symptoms started with a twisted knot feeling in my stomach and diarrohea, which started off as 10-20 times a day then gradually got worse where i was going 50-60 times a day.  I have been suffering from anxiety so at first i thought it was just that, but when i started to see blood in my poo i reported it to my GP.  They instant arranged a stool and blod tests, and referred me for a colonoscopy.  The tests came back with blood in my stool and the colonoscopy showed a polyp which they removed there and then and also a 6cm tumour that looked suspicious which they took biopsys and was unable to remove there and then.  I was sent for a CT scan to check it hadn't spread and was diagnosed with stage 1-2 bowel cancer.

I am really sorry about what you went through with your dad and I really pray you have a positive outcome and if it makes you feel any better they told me i had had my cancer for years with no symptoms.  It is a slow growing cancer but one that does need to be checked out as soon as possible, especially if there is a family history.

I'll be praying for you, please take care, we are all here for you.

    Kirsty

  • Thank you so much for your reply even though you yourself are going through an horrific time. I'm just so disappointed I didn't act sooner especially after all the problems my Dad suffered. I have a SEN child so my stomach is always in knots with from stress and anxiety. I just put every symptom down to something else being a busy Mum. If my child had a nose bleed I've have them at the GP's but we often neglect ourselves

Thank you for your kind words and my thoughts are with you too. I will follow your progress if that's ok to see how you're doing x
