My mum might have bladder cancer

Hi everyone,

ive never posted here before so this is my first time, I do apologise if I get anything wrong. But I'm sick with worry and unable to sleep, and I just want some advice from people that may be going through what I am. My mum is 52, she has a variety of Heath conditions (heart problems, COPD, diabetes, arthritis, the list goes on), anyhow, she is a amazing woman, in July 2020, she began bleeding when urinating, and she had no pain however she did go to the doctors but they said it probably wasn't anything serious, done some bloods and had a biopsy done on her womb and cervix as that was where they believed the bleeding was from, she stopped bleeding and nothing came back on the results so they sent her on her way. Fast forward to late November 2020, she is bleeding again, however this time she is going to the toilet every 20 minutes and just passing blood, she's unable to actually pee urine, and is suffering lower back pain, tiredness (however this is a symptom of her other ailments), and she is also having pain in her tummy (she's described this as like period pains) and maybe a bit TMI but she's saying she feels asif she has a large "ball" inside her vagina. She had a appointment today and she's being seen at the hospital Monday for more tests and hopefully she will find out what's going on, I'm sick with worry, I cannot stop crying although I haven't shown this to her as I don't want her to worry, I'm 20 with a child of my own, I have 4 siblings and my dad adores my mum, so we're a close family and she will have so much love and support whatever it is, but bladder cancer is my biggest worry, can anyone else please advise on this? Also, has anyone experienced symptoms a long time and survived this? My mums symptoms started in July but I am so scared if it maybe cancer it's too late as it was left so long please advise. Thank you

  • Hi Kaymarie2802,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to read of your worries and I can certainly understand this must be an unsettling and difficult time - and it's never easy while waiting for results of tests.

Try not to assume anything at this point, although I know this is easier said than done. Once all the information is available from the appointments and test results, then you will have a better idea of what is going on and any next steps to take.

Take things a day at a time if you can, and keep yourself busy while you wait to hear more - to help keep your mind off things.

Take care of yourself too. Wishing you all the best and I hope you hear more soon,

    Ben
