Am I getting things out of perspective?

HI I'm new to this forum and it seems very helpful to people ive known, so decided to give it a go as i am very worried.

I had a routine blood test a few weeks ago and my doctor flagged up that my WBC was high, and had been on my blood test before a few months before that, so we did another lot a month later and they were still high.

I also had petechiae a few times in the last few months on my legs and lasts about a week then fades, then pops up again a few months later unpredictably.

So my doctor has said they are going to contact a heamatologist to see if its leukimia whihc hadn't even crossed my mind.

My mum has just been cleared of bowel cancer as well after 6 years of treatments, so i know what its like.

And I'm now playing the waiting game which is the worst but i just wanted to ask if this had happened to anyone or if it is likely to be leukimia or if anyone can ofer some guidance or advice on any of this, I just want to be prepared.

Thank you in advance

  • Welcome to the forum ACLC although I'm sorry for the reason you're joining us.

As many of our members will tell you, it can be scary when the 'c' word is mentioned but if you can, try not to let your mind run away with you until you've found out more. I know that's much easier said than done but there could be numerous reasons why your WBC is high, not just cancer.

Hopefully you'll receive some support and kind words from our community soon but in the meantime we're thinking of you and will have our fingers crossed all goes well with the haematologist when the time comes.

    Kind regards,
