Itchy mole

Hello

I'm just looking for a bit of support. I've got a large mole on my back which I've had for years and is always worried me. Last couple days I've noticed it's felt really dry and itchy so I've been moisturising it and it feels a bit better. But I've been to my doctor today and she is doing an urgent two week referral to a dermatologist to get it checked.

she said the urgent referral is to rule out cancer do you some changes within the mole. But apart from it feeling dry/itchy, it's appearance hasn't changed.

so I'm just waiting for app and feeling bit worried. I'm not really sure what to expect, if anyone can offer their experience please?
Thanks so much

  • Hello, so I had my mole removed today. I asked the dermatologist if he was expecting the results to come back as anything sinister snd his response was, let's just wait for results. He would not offer me a single bit of reassurance.

is that normal? I'm in such a mess with my anxiety and ended up in tears at my app.

    thanks for listening

  • Hi Casey,

Yes, that's very normal. Most consultants won't say one way or the other because they may get it wrong. The odd one may offer an opinion but it's rare. I'm afraid you will have to wait for the results so the best thing is to try and distract yourself from thinking about it over the Christmas period. Keep busy and pamper yourself to try and ease your anxiety.

    Good luck x

  • Thank you Angie.

I think I got lucky with my previous lump/scare in august as my consultant did give me their honest opinion at the time - whilst waiting on the results. Which I felt helped me more than just saying well lets just wait and see.

I think I feel worse as it's first Xmas without my sister snd because she was so unlucky with her cancer at such a young age, I'm just expecting same outcome for me snd already thinking it's spread.
    Might sound silly :(

thanks for you kind words x

  • I am so sorry about all you have been through, and now this.  I cannot imagine how broken you must be feeling!

I am currently being checked for Ovarian Cancer, so slightly different, but I once went to my GP for one thing, and came away with an urgent appointment to see a dermatologist.  At the time I had no idea they were even thinking cancer, it was only when I was sat opposite the dermatologist and read on the paper that they were checking for cancer! I think I was numb for the whole time there....when he said it wasn't cancerous, the relief was crazy.  But I just thought it was because the spot was so close to my eye that they sent me urgently. So yeh...I do kind of get your concerns.  Don't let anyone make you feel silly, but please try not to stress, as the only person who gets impacted, is you

  • Thank you x

i am so pleased to hear you've had some good news, that's great news.

ive been given a follow up app for the 22nd jan, but He said results are 2 to 3 weeks.

So I've just been thinking, I hope he's not expecting me to wait 5 weeks to get my results during this follow up app, as that would be incredibly unfair.

I honestly don't think I can wait that long. I'm going to ring my gp on Monday as I'm not coping with the anxiety and not sure what to do. I'm literally a mess and just lay in bed crying all day. I can only assume it's a combination of everything I've got going on xx

Thank you  to all of you for replying xx

  • Hi Casey,

I've just been reading your post and I am currently waiting to hear back from a derm for a mole on my back.

Did you get good news on the results of your mole?

    xx

  • Hi,

Sorry to hear you're going through the agony of waiting on results.

I am pleased to say I got good news :) my consultant admitted he was expecting the worst, based on the appearance of the mole, but it was absolutely fine. :) ive had two friends go through it too and theirs turned out to be fine.

Hope you're ok? Have you been waiting long? X
