Ultrasound results

Hi

i am a 48 year old woman who has gone through her menopause and am currently taking HRT since February of this year. I have had unexplained bleeding for the last 6 weeks so my doctor sent me for both an external and internal pelvic ultrasound. I was not overly concerned as I know sometimes you do get some unexplained bleeding. Anyway! After the procedure the lady who did the ultrasound explained that I would have to return to the hospital to get my results. Is this normal procedure? I was just surprised that I would have to take up a hospital appointment if everything was ok. I was expecting them to write to me or my GP. I'm sure I'm just worrying Unnecessarily. Many thanks.

  • Hello Badmad27

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health concerns these past weeks.

We know that many usual ways of working have changed since the start of the Covid19 pandemic and lots of normal ways of doing things have been changed.

I'm unsure why you may have to go to the hospital for your results. It may be that the technician thought you had been referred by a Consultant and didn't realise it was your GP who had requested the scans. I think for your own peace of mind there's no harm in giving your GP a call to query this with them. Hopefully they will be able to give you some reassurance.

    Best wishes,
