Thyroid cancer 1 year ago, new symptoms

I had Papillary thyroid cancer 1 year ago and I have just had my check up and all is well on this front but I have been having problems in my throat area and I assumed thr thyroid cancer had returned.  I was relieved that it hadn't but started to really worry as my swallowing food was getting really painful.  J awoke with my Oncology nurse that told me to look at my own throat as covid rules restrict them from looking down throats.  I could clearly see I had a big lump on one side and smaller raised lumps on the other.  A barium swallow xray was ordered and they diagnosed a pharynx retention cyst and a polyoidal lesion. My throat surgeon then referred me for an urgent endoscopy which I had yesterday but at a different hospital, not at the hospital who have all my medical records.

The Endoscopic exam found only a hiatus Hernia and nothing else so took no biopsy.  I am totally confused. How can one test reveal one thing and another find nothing!

Can anyone help please?

  • I'm sorry about the confusion surrounding your test results Lynn.

It would be best to discuss this with the teams looking after you but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses first, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope you're able to get some clarification on this soon.

    Kind regards,
