My Son Zachary who has been suffering from leg pain mainly minor and just complains, but a few occasions of crying, screaming and not able to weight bare, also limping. He had an X-ray following a GP apppntment and a blood test, the blood test was clear and the X-ray showed a peanut sized tumour in his leg, they told me at the time they thought it was benign, but he needs to be seen to check exactly what it is and to check it isn’t Cancerous
Well as you can imagine I’ve been so anxious and worried, but his appointment finally arrived yesterday with Orthopaedics. There were 2 doctors and a student doctor in the room, they checked his legs, I brought my diary and told them it had about 30-40 incidents of minor pain within the last month and then they decided that the pain was probably growing pains (although in his shins and soles of feet occasionally) and they would see him again in 4 months and they were thinking about an MRI, they said again they think the tumour is benign and they were pondering over whether to give him an MRI and I said I think he should have one to see what it actually is, they said he’d need to have it under general anaesthetic and it will be a long way away due to covid and they couldn’t give me a timescale
I’m just not happy at all, I really thought with him already having had a leg examination and then already having the X-ray they would have been doing more tests yesterday, but they didn’t seem bothered at all
If the pain was on the one leg they would have been more concerned, but how do we know really, Zachary is 5 and comes across has having great communication, but he is also an excellent masker diagnosed Autism Spectrum Condition and how do we know really if it is both legs or if he is just getting confused communicating that over to me
I know in a way that’s a good sign that they’re not concerned, but it sounds to me they still weren’t 100% certain and I’m still as worried as I was before the appointment
I just wanted to ask if this sounds familiar to anyone please and whether you have any advice on any action I should be taking? Thank you, Sian
