Help! High risk hpv and changes to cervical cells.

Hi. I'm posting on here in the hope that anyone can help me.
I had a smear test and examination 6 weeks ago, where the doctor also carried out an interval examination of my cervix and an ultra sound to loom at my womb too. He said everything looked and felt normal. I am 25 and have had a few smears in the past which have all been normal (the last one being in 2017 or 18 i can't remember).

I have just came home to my results which state i have tested positive for high risk HPV and have also got changes to my cells. I have got myself in such a state, i can't stop crying and i am so worried. I can't speak to anyone on the phone as it's friday and everywhere is closed now and won't be able to speak to someone until monday but i will be losing my mind all weekend with this news.

  • Hi

I'm nearly in the similar situation went to gp for smear test this morning and she had a junior dr with her called her to have a look at my cervix and wrote that I had a suspicious looking cervix which looked worse than an endometrial ablation I had 3 years ago to help with my heavy period. I also had high levels HPV a year ago and had a coslocooy when they took biopsy and consultant gynaecology did not find anything when but had to go back after a year because of covid no appointment was sent to me however

She said she would do a 2 week referral and I mentioned I was travelling.  She said dont travel wait for your appointment.  Gp sent a receptionist to call me that I should book a blood test before referral urgently I'm feeling so nervous I cannot sleep.  I will have blood test today and wait for referral.  I feel I really want to travel on monday but I will be back in January. But the way she spoke to me I'm feeling so scared.  I do not really have much symptoms expect that she took smear on my last day of period of which I started to bleed a little again.

I wish you the best but I think listening to other people on this forum helps.

  • Sorry to hear about your situation. When I went for my smear the gynaecologist said my cervix looked fine and he also felt it and there was no pain etc. Also did an internal ultrasound of my womb and it looked normal too but I can't help but worry, especially after having normal smears in the past and now i have high risk hpv and cell changes.

did it state on your letter which type of hpv or how much the cells have changed? mine did not but i've seen so many posts stating theirs did and it's making me worry/think the worst even more.

Even worse getting told this just before christmas, it's my favourite time of year but i feel i won't be able to enjoy it this year with this on my mind

good luck today, i hope everything goes well! please let me know. x
