Tonsil cyst

I have developed a cyst in my tonsils, I've been felling really unwell over the last few weeks and a couple of days ago I noticed a lump on my tonsils. I was initially told it was tonsillitis, but my partner and I knew that it definitely wasn't that so we got a second opinion who confirmed that it was actually a cyst. The doctor said it probably wasn't cancerous, but he can't know without doing tests. What happens now? What do I do? How do I cope with this? I'm managing the pain because I'm on really strong painkillers for chronic pain, but I'm so stressed and anxious, because I'm also really high risk of cancer anyway because of my autoimmune disease. I'm so scared.

  • Hello Hope_in_darkness,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you but it is good that the doctor is being thorough and ordered further tests.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Hope,

Firstly stop worrying untill you get it confirmed. Sometimes these things can be harmless.

I have somthing similar, enlarged tonsil and a spot or lump on the tonsil. GP has no idea what it is but I think it is a cyst. I have been reffered to ENT.

I have no pain but been feeling really fatigued recently

Are you able to describe what your Cyst looks like?
