CT v Colonscopy

Good Morning

I'm getting a bit anxious about the fact I have been asked to go straight to a CT scan without a normal colonscopy.

I've had lots of x-rays in my life for other reasons but never a CT scan. I did not realise that a CT scan of the pelvis and abdomen was such a high dose of radiation. It is equivalent to 1100 chest x-rays but trying to get it into perspective it increases the lifetime risk of cancer by 1/2000 so maybe I am over worrying.

I also read that a high proportion of people who have a CT scan still need a colonscopy anyway so it is not saving anything in terms of patient invasiveness.

So my question is what are peoples experiences of having a CT scan and then probably needing a colonscopy anyway?

I am erring towards requesting a colonscopy I think.

thank you JRAW
