Hi, I went for an ultrasound and they found a lump which I had a biopsy for. I have now received a letter from the hospital for an appointment with a surgeon. Is this normal practice or does it mean bad news? I'm super worried. Any help welcome.

Hi, I also got called back after a routine mammogram. Had further mammogram, ultrasound and then vacuum assured biopsy in my left breast. Possible calcification?? Having results appointment tomorrow and absolutely dreading it. My Dad also died today of COVID so my stress levels are off the scale. To be honest I'm really scared! My appointment is also with a surgeon who specialises in breast cancer surgery. Perhaps I should stop googling everything but I like to be informed. Trying to be positive! Will let u know how it goes for me. Good luck!
Hi thanks for the reply. I've got everything crossed for you. It's so scary isn't it? I'd much rather have a heads up as to what's wrong. So sorry to hear about your dad. Take care
It's all the waiting and worrying! Almost will be a relief to get some results and know what's next. I don't even think my partner can come with me due to the COVID restrictions in place. I will be a wreck at the end of it.
Hi Njones,
I am so sorry to hear that a lump was found when you had your ultrasound, but am glad to hear that you have had a biopsy to rule out anything sinister. Most surgeons prefer to give results face to face irrespective of what they are, so don't read anything into your appointent. The consultant you see at the breast clinic on your first appointment is usually a surgeon, so again this is not unusual. This is always a worrying time and our minds go into overdrive while we are waiting, but I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found.
Do please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.
Kindest regards,
Jolamine xx
Hi Ali,
I am so sorry to hear about your dad. Covid has robbed us all of so many good people throughout the past year. I'm not surprised that your stress levels are through the roof. It seems so unfair that you have to go through these tests with your breast when you have had so much more going on recently. I sincerely hope that you get good news tomorrow.
I can appreciate that you like to be informed, but try to avoid Google. This will only raise your anxiety further and, it will serve no useful purpose.
Do please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.
Kindest regards,
Jolamine xx
So, went to results appointment with Surgeon. I have Dcis high grade. Having Lumpectomy in the next 2 weeks to remove it and maybe Radiotherapy afterwards. Surgeon said prognosis is excellent so fingers crossed. I was remarkably calm about this. So full on to bury my dad and sort Christmas out first!!
Oh Ali,
I am so sorry to hear this - It certainly hasn't been the best week for you. Still, i'm glad that you were able to stay calm. If you can continue through surgery and treatment in the same positive way this will help you immensely. Does this mean that your surgery is going to be before Christmas?
I hope that you manage to get your dad's funeral arranged soon and that it all goes as well as it can.
I'll be thinking of you. Don't forget to let us know how you get on with your surgery. I've been through it twice in the past 11 years, so if I can help you with anything, I'm always here.
Kindest regards,
Jolamine xx
Hi Jolamine,
Thanks for support. I'm just so scared, scared of surgery, scared of pain and recovery time, scared of Radiotherapy and scared of it returning!! I'm a big ninny really! Surgery just before Christmas! Will be laid up I imagine for a while. Still have good family support.
